Assignment 1: Shapes, texture, form, lines, colour

I think I must have spent the most time on assignment 1.
I had so many options I didn't know which ones to choose!

I had a lot of color pictures too, but can I just say I really like how cute the flowers in this looks.

Assignment 2: Aperture, shutter speed

Aperture adjustments with how much zoom will determine depth of field...we were supposed to take...

I liked this set because i think how the raindrops turned into blurred dots is really quite cool!




this set was cool for the... deep-in-thought and then snap-back-into-reality feeling... unfortunately there was no subject in the background for the snap-back-into-reality picture... :(

not sure if this pic qualifies but omg i love it ITS SO PRETTY. I just happened to catch the moon and this plane gas trail there. SO PRETTTY >.<

this was the in-class exercise but i like it!











ah this. I wanted to photograph someone on a swing, but its harder than I thought (to pan at the same rate as the swing), this one looks better when it is bigger... she wasn't swinging too fast.

Assignment 3: Perspective, close up, zoom, metaphor of a smile

I had to borrow a tripod for this. If you enlarge this the exit sign is pretty clear :D
I have a dozen others of this... it was difficult to decide which one to use :(















































This was another option I liked because it looked like the water was splashing out at you! But the exit sign was a more interesting subject because it looks like you're running towards the exit.










4. metaphor of a smile

This was my brother's birthday actually. One of the hands is my brother's and the other is his girlfriend's.















And this one, I guess a birthday cake with a lit candle is a universal metaphor for a warmth and smiles because it means someone is celebrating someone.

Assignment 4: High key and Low key Photography

I wanted to use the same set of props to do both high and low key photography so that there is more contrast... for the fun of it. Not sure if it worked :)

I did try doing the low-key in a similar position to the high key, but this crouched position looks rather more sinister... so I chose this instead.

Assignment 5: Appropriation

My topic for this is "communication breakdown"

I am talking about the breakdown of communication within a family. This was something I feel that I experience in my own family.

Everyone suppresses their ill feelings, they are unable to share with each other and turn to various other means to vent their feelings. The girl blogs, the boy vents it by playing computer games, the mother writes a diary, the grandma talks to her friends, the father devotes his energy to work.

This is sad when the family is supposed to be your pillar of strength and support, but at the end they become just people you have to live with and not step on each others' toes.

Their lips are sewn shut. And even though they look like a cohesive family at the dinner table, they are actually people who cannot share things with each other.

Therefore it is desaturated. To show that it is not real.

Assignment 6: Capture the moment

I really wanted to take a picture of someone catching the wedding bouquet, because I think its a really nice subject for a moment, not to mention weddings are mostly pretttyy... but unfortunately I was not invited to any weddings lately, so I asked my friend to help me pose.

Here's the multishot thing that is required for the assignment :) but the picture I really like is the one above. I consulted with my lecturer and she said that I needed to have more people in the scene. Unfortunately it is so difficult to find willing models :I (I thought I can pretend that she ran very fast so she caught the bouquet.)

And unfortunately the above was not done with the multishot function :S I really just caught it :\

Class exercise: Experiment with lights
